THE ART OF SIGILS - PART 2

THE ART OF SIGILS - PART 2

 MAKING SIGILS

There are many different ways to go about making sigils. These methods are done through a process known as sigilization which is done by creating an imprint of your intention as a construct that you can use in your magick to manifest your will. There are many different ways of going about doing this, and every different way can provide a different look, which may help you connect, and use that sigil more effectively. Some of these methods are quite simple, while others of them can be quite complicated. You may choose to use, and stick with one specific method, or you can use a multitude of them. There are methods to create all types of sigils from the drawn sigil symbols that are most common to verbal, music, hand signs, and object sigils, along with many others. Creating sigils is a very personal experience and many different practitioners have their own ways of doing them in new ways are always being created all the time. There are no wrong ways to make a sigil as long as you can go through the process of taking your intention, and combining it into some form of symbol that can later be filled with power, and released. Because of this sigils are versatile, and varied, and can be anything that we could assign meaning to which could be the representational concrete sigils that are more common, to other abstract forms of sigil craft. But, before you can start creating a representation of your intention whether concrete, or abstract, you must have the intention itself, so that you will be able to design your sigil with that intention in mind.

STATEMENTS OF INTENT

Before you can go through the process of creating a sigil you must have your intention well-thought-out. This is usually done by writing a statement of intent that will be used in order to understand what the intention of the sigil will be. In some sigil methods this statement will be used directly in order to create the sigil. There are ways to go about creating a very clear statement of intent, so that you will be able to bring forth what you are intending in a very accurate, and precise way. There are some things that you should focus on while making these intentions that will allow them to be the most effective they can be.

TRY NOT TO USE NEGATIONS:

Statements of intention should usually not include negations. Negation words contradict, or denies the rest of the statement usually resulting in switching the entire meaning of the statement. These are words like "not", "no", "never", "none" and "nobody". This is because the subconscious mind has the potential to skip over them manifesting the opposite of what you want, because it does not recognise the negation, and will focus on the rest of the statement. It's a lot like when you tell someone not to think about something, and they begin to think about it. Like if someone told you not to think about a car, the idea of car will be presently focused on in your mind, instead of anything besides the concept of car. Which is not the best thing to have in a statement of intention where we are supposed to be focusing on what we want to manifest. Practitioners have been known to get around, or to use statements with negations, and have gotten results from it, though it is probably better to avoid them, if you can.

TENSE:

Statements of intent should also usually be written in present tense. This is so that you can portray your intention as if you already have it allowing it to be more of an affirmation, and will allow you to focus on what you want, rather than getting what you want. Practitioners have found that writing it in past tense, and future tense does still work, though writing it in present tense has been known to be one of the more effective methods of aligning the intention to what you want. You should not use the word "will" in your statements of intent, but you should much rather use words such as "Am", "Do", and "Have". The word "will" communicates that it will take place in the undetermined future, which is not what we want, we want to manifest it in the here, and now.

SCOPE:

It is also very important to keep your statement of intent grounded, and broad, this will give your intention more room to manifest, and to work within the probability of manifesting what you want to bring forth. Things that don't have a high probability of manifesting on their own usually don't make very good intentions, because of how much power they would take to manifest. It is also very important to not keep your intention to broad, because manifestation will take the path of least resistance when it comes to manifesting what you want to set forth, which could end up manifesting something that you don't want, or manifesting the smallest amount of what you want. It is important to find a healthy medium between broad, and specific, so that you can find the perfect medium to help you bring forth what you want to manifest allowing your desire to come to you in the most sought after way.

STATEMENTS OF INTENT FOR SPECIFIC TYPES OF SIGILS:

These ways above are usually used to write statements of intent for desire sigils, and will allow you to make clear statements of intent for those types of sigils.

• Statements of intent for name sigils are simply just the name
that you want them to represent, so that they can be crafted around the association, and power of that name.
• Statements of intent for correspondence sigils are the names of the object you want to be represented, much like the statement of intent for name sigils.
• Statements of intent for linking sigils can be as simple as "sigils of this kind are linked together", or anything else that
articulates the intention of being connected to other
representations of itself. • Combination sigils' statements of intent can simply be multiple statements of intention combined together that portrays two, or more sigil intentions.

It is important to take time with this statement of intent creation process because this is the focus of everything else that you are going to be doing. If you want to manifest your desire correctly and effectively it is imperative that you build a very clear, and thorough statement of intent to represent all that you want to bring forth into your reality. You will get better at this process as you do it, and will eventually be able to create very masterful statements of intent, so continue to practice writing down what you intend, until it becomes second nature.
USING DIFFERENT ALPHABETS & LANGUAGES

Many of these sigil methods will make you use the statement of intents letters to create the sigil. You could always go through the process of changing the alphabet, or language the statement of intent is written in, so that you'll be able to use the new words to create sigils with the help of that language, and/or alphabet. This can add extra power to the sigil, and can more closely associated that sigil with that alphabet, and/or language. Certain alphabets, and languages also have their own metaphysical properties that you may be able to bring into your sigil design, along with that it may also help you to make more aesthetically pleasing, and unique forms of sigils by using the shapes, and designs of that alphabet, and language by incorporating them into your sigil's design. You would be able to do this with any form of language or alphabet that you can think of, but it would be a good idea to also be familiar with these alphabets and/or languages before you go through the process of using them.

SIGIL CREATION TIMING

All forms of sigils will take on different metaphysical properties depending upon the time in which they are made. Many different forms of magickal traditions have their own correspondence to specific times, and there are also certain astrological, or numerological times that you could base your sigil creation on. All you must do in order to use these times is to create a sigil, or a sigil representation during them, so that the power of these times can be integrated within the sigil you have created. You could also look at the numerology of the dates in order to figure out what type of power is your sigil will take on. Here is also a basic correspondent list for the metaphysical properties of specific times:

WORD SIGIL METHOD

This is one of the most popular forms of sigil making, and was first introduced by Austin Osman Spare in his practices of chaos magick. It was also thought to be inspired from Heinrich Cornelius to create sigils entities Agrippa's work in the third book of Occult Philosophy which communicated how to create for entities through the use of their name. For this method you are going to need to take your statement of intent, and make a ligature out of the letters that are found within it. This process literally allows you to turn your statement of intent into the sigil that is representing it letting it act as the symbol in which your desires are manifested from,

FIRST TAKE YOUR STATEMENT OF INTENT

E.g. l acquire money this week

Then we are going to go through the process of removing the vowels, and repeating letters in order to make the statement of intent shorter, and more manageable to work with. If you have a ridiculously long statement of intent I would recommend working with the first letter of every word, while also getting rid of repeating letters. If the statement of intent is very short you can use the entire statement of intent including vowels, and repeating letters in order to maximize the amount of letters that you will be able to work with. You do not need to go through the process of getting rid of letters, or vowels, if you do not want to. This is simply a way of making the statement of intent more manageable for the next steps, allowing you to keep the amount of letters that you are working with at a good workable amount. When you are done with this process you should have an assortment of letters from your statement of intent, that you will be able to use to further create your sigil. It will look something like this:

E.g. ICQRMNTHSWK

Once at this step you could go through the process of changing your letters into a different alphabet, if you would like to. Lastly, we are going to make a ligature out of the letters that we have in order to form our sigil. You can combine them in any way that you see fit though it is important to try to create a sigil that does not simply look like a combination of letters, and instead looks like something unique, and all its own. After you are done combining the letters together you can also add accents, dots, and, lines, along with other things to spruce up the sigil design a little bit in order to make it look like its own unique symbol. Feel free to morph, and flip around the letters in order to make very interesting designs using them, the sky is really the limit with how much creative ways you can go about making these letters come together. You can make many different drafts of this sigil until you end up with one that you like. This may take some time to get right depending upon your proficiency in sigilcraft. It will probably end up looking something like this depending upon how you choose to combine the letters:

RANDOM/INTUITIVE SIGIL METHOD
One way to go about creating a sigil is to simply sit down with a piece of paper, and writing utensil, and randomly make marks on the page while thinking on your intent. This will seemingly at random use your intuition to create a sigil based on your feelings, understandings, and insight towards that intention. This process will go on until you feel like the sigil has been completed. Once completed it will act as a sigil representation for your intention, and you will be able to use the sigil to manifest your desire. Sigils made through this method can be very complicated, or simple depending upon how your intuition perceives this intention, and how long it spends making it. This process can also be very quick, and because of that it is a great way to go about making a sigil, if you are in a hurry to have one made. If you do this method your sigil may look something like this:
